Sharing my reflections about Fleet Week onboard the SS Jeremiah O'Brien. Despite the cloudy skies and the looming threat of rain, the experience was incredibly vibrant. Everyone was buzzing with anticipation, coming together to honor this historic World War II Liberty ship. Even though the Blue Angels had to cancel their performance, the aircraft that did take to the sky performed intricate maneuvers against the darkening backdrop, and you could feel the excitement in the air.
The ship’s rich maritime history was a nostalgic contrast to the modern aviation displays. Sailing beneath the Golden Gate Bridge was magnificent, despite the less-than-ideal weather. I wasn't expecting it, but I managed to capture some stunning photographs from the ship’s expansive deck. It was a true joy and a sense of achievement to seize those unexpected opportunities.
Overall, the experience was one of awe and camaraderie with everyone there. It deepened my appreciation for naval history and aerial displays and gave me the chance to capture some truly rare moments with my camera. I hope you enjoy the photos.
